07.08.2011, Morning

Sunday Morning Street Photography Walk: From Imbi Market to Petaling Street, Kuala Lumpur

I am gonna eat you sometime! It's just that I have too many other stuff to eat today that I didn't eat you. I ate the delicious and famed toasted buns, drank the Hainan tea, ate the pork intestines noodles, crunchy "Ah Pong"... hmm...

The Leica M6 is still my favourite camera. This is one camera I don't think I will ever sell. I don't mind another M2, M4 in the future... and maybe the M9. But I still love the independence from camera batteries... stuff that are totally mechanical! No "auto-shut-off", No "restart-lag", No "running-out-of-batts"...

Photographing streets is for my soul. It takes attention off myself, it reminds me of tougher lives out there, it takes time off "trying to please others", it takes time off the dollar sign!

It's also a good slimming exercise! Haha...

Foreign workers adapting to our local Malaysia culture and environment

My Current Status:
I have been using my film rangefinder since 17.06.2011 Friday on impulse. I kinda "lost my brain" on 18.06.2011 Saturday after something unhappy happened between my dad and I. This past week, or over a week has been a week of extreme joy and sadness at the same time. I still have rolls of undeveloped film since 17.06.2011 in which I will make it a point to process, scan and upload ultimately in this diary in sequence. For now, please bear with my inconsistency.

The joy of shooting film over digital is immense for me. The lack of convenience of live views, instant previews, high ISOs, autofocus, just to name some of them forces me to look into myself more, my skills and my vision, the lack of multiple frames, looking for chance shots, if you know what I mean.

I also realized my love for photography is indescribable in words, as indescribable as when you first fall in love with a lady, I suppose.

And too often, what you really want deep inside you, no one else knows. Only you know.

Now, that's my secret. :)

Did I tell you I have a fetish for umbrellas lately?

10.06.2011, Free Expression

The distortion makes the gate sticks right in your face. I think the struggle of free expression in "controlled environment" is always in the hearts of artists in Malaysia or Singapore.

My Feelings Today: "No Eye See!" (Cantonese), which basically means there are some people and things that happens in life which you wish you have no eyes to see! Hahaha...
Enjoyed my day running 4 rolls of film through my trusty, heavy, metallic and robust Canon VI-T rangefinder in the streets of Klang, Malaysia.

26.05.2011, 9:25am

This morning I had a short walk at the wet market with my XZ-1. I took a couple of shots I like, and I plan to convert them to black and white, which is my preference. I still prefer to present pictures one at a time, for viewers to contemplate on it for a while, before any possible conclusions are made. So I have decided to slowly present my collections in my other blog "Images That Speak" in time to come. As for this diary, the above shot shall be my memory of today.

About the above image, I have a fetish for umbrellas. I have an impulse to capture moving subjects. This shot was taken from behind some man-made shades of a street stall. And I just pressed the shutter button on impulse when I felt someone approaching real close. I had no idea who he/she looked like. I like to freeze moments like this. Now, I can slowly enjoy what I have captured.
